NURTURING · KNOWLEDGE · A SLOWER PACE

Loving an old dog
changes you.

It slows you down. It asks more of you. It teaches you patience, presence, and responsibility, and sometimes it can feel overwhelming. This is a space for real guidance, rooted in lived experience.

THE GOLDEN RULE

"Treat them as we would wish them to treat us."

SLOWS YOU DOWN

Older dogs ask us to live at their pace — quieter, gentler, more present.

ASKS MORE OF YOU

Medications, mobility, mornings that start at 4am. This work is real.

TEACHES YOU PRESENCE

Patience, responsibility, and the kind of love that doesn't look away.

ABOUT DAWN

Fifteen years
of
old-dog love.

I'm the founder of Woody's Place Senior German Shepherd Sanctuary — a true sanctuary providing lifelong care for homeless German Shepherds eight years and older, most arriving at ten or beyond.

For more than 15 years, I have lived the daily reality of older dog care: the reusable diapers, the orthopedic beds, the medication schedules, the short frequent walks — five, six, seven times a day and more.

Life With Old Dogs was born because people love their aging dogs deeply… but they often feel alone and unsure.

This platform — and the School — exist so you don't have to figure it all out by yourself. Whether you're caring for an aging dog at home or a sanctuary president carrying the weight of impossible decisions, this is a place for practical information, ethical clarity, and steady support.
